We have saved you some trouble by posting the most frequently asked questions here on our site:
I want to sign up for a class, what should I do? Wow that is easy! Just go to the class you want, choose a date and "ADD IT TO CART". All classes are pre-pay. If you'd like to speak with someone and sign up, you can either stop in or just give us a call at the store! Please remember we are just a small shop, so if you can't get us on the phone right away, just drop us an email here: shop @themakesite.com
Can I register for my friends too? Absolutely! Just note the message above will also apply.
How far in Advance do I need to register for a class? You may Register either online or in person - Registration at least 48 business hours in advance is required to ensure supplies and instructors are prepared for you. Some classes require more advance registration and that information will be posted with the class description.
Do you have more than one location? Not at this time, but just ask our customers, they would have ridden through the desert on a horse with no name for one of our classes, because, well, it’s just that much fun!
I want to learn how to do some of the crafts and skills, but I don’t really like the projects your classes involve, can you create a special project just for me? Well, Well….the most important thing to remember is that MAKE is about FUN, FRIENDS, and Doing – It – Yourself, so we highly suggest you take the class and you will see that our classes aren’t just about the projects, but the skills that come along with all of those projects. Those skills are applicable to the projects you are looking to create, and will allow you the knowledge needed to move forward into your desired projects. After the class, you can use our lounge to DIY and we’ll even have designers on site to advise you if needed. If your needs are still unmet after taking our skill set classes, we can surely tailor something to suit your needs by setting up a private lesson for any project you choose.
Do you offer classes in things like ceramics, jewelry, knitting, etc?
Just like other studios, we have our niche and specialties. While we sometimes offer guest instructors or beginner classes in things like jewelry and knitting there are other shops in the area that specialize in those mediums. Please suggest a class with us via our main page and we'll either point you in the right direction or get busy planning your suggested class.
Thanks for your understanding!
What is the Lounge? We know that not everyone can have an entire room or house for that matter, dedicated to the domestic arts, so we have taken care of that. Open Lounge is now being offered in 2 levels, so that we may have staff here to help you with your projects! It is $40.00 per 3 hour period. Bring your patterns, questions, projects. Remember, this is not a class, so we are not actually "teaching" anything, but, we will help you through trouble areas, how to finish a seam, the best tools to use, etc. The room is set up for lounging, reading our vast array of magazines (all the good ones anyhow!), meeting other craftists, sharing ideas, getting assistance on a project, spreading out on our large tables, trying out our machines, sergers, and more.
Reservations Required to Ensure Availability Just send an email to shop@THEMAKESITE.COM and let us know the time and date you are hoping to come in.
For the sewing classes, can I bring in my own sewing machine? Well Sure! Sewing Basics I covers the machine in addition to teaching you how to make a fabulous tote bag, sew a straight Line and more. So just bring that machine with you and we'll get you going on it!
What if I don't have my own Machine?
No problem! We have machines here that you can rent for just $5.00 **Due to the increasing cost of machine repair/maintenance, we will be charging $5.00 for use of our machines during classes. Please selected machine rental with your class if you will not be bringing your own machine. Same day machine rental will be offered cash only and on an as available basis, so please be sure to sign up for a machine if you need one.
There is a craft, project, dish, or skill I was really hoping you would have a class for, but I don’t see it….. Hey! Good Idea, send it to us, we’ll throw it in our idea pot and see what we can do. We are here to please you, so let us know what you are looking for and we will do our best to make it happen. If for any reason, we won’t be able to offer a class, we will do our best to offer you an affordable private session. Suggestions give you the opportunity to suggest a class.
What else do you have there at MAKE? To name a few, we have one of a kind designs in fashion, furniture, handbags, and gifts. Check out our Fun Fashion Jewelry to match the hot new skirt and handbag you just made, Vintage Furniture (refinished and painted just for you!). Our local Designer boutique features over 25 local makers, designers, artists and builders at any one time. Their goods are handcrafted and usually one of a kind. We add new designers and items all the time, so be sure to check us out often!
I’ve never sewn before, but I am quick learner, can I just skip the Basics I class? Nope…be kind to our other students, take the class which best suits your skill set. If you tell us you are ready for Level II, then we will believe you, but please note that we will not "re-teach" the skills that you should have walking into that class, it’s not fair to our other students, and our time for these fun projects is so short.
What is up with the Basics and Levels Classes? Once you have Taken the Basics of Level I, you can take any other Level I class, and Same with Basics II, once you have completed that class you can take any project that requires basics II. They are like those pesky pre-reqs in college, only these are fun and they don’t take place at 8am across campus.
